Teenager Bianca Andreescu stunned Serena Williams in gripping US Open final to maintain a first Grand Slam title and reject that the American a 24th significant.
Williams, 37, couldn’t deal with the caliber in a 6-3 reduction that is 7-5.
Canadian Andreescu, at the primary draw here for the very first time, dropped a break in the second set before falling to the ground in disbelief and taking her third match point.
“This season was a dream come true,” Andreescu informed the crowd.
“I am beyond thankful and really blessed. I’ve worked really tough for this moment. To play this phase against Serena – a real legend of the game – is wonderful.”
On the disappointment of a property crowd, Williams has lost four significant finals.
“Bianca played an unbelievable game,” Williams stated. “I’m so pleased and happy for you, it was incredible tennis on the market.”
Williams, seeded eighth, appeared edgy throughout because she aimed to fulfill Australian Margaret Court’s tally of wins, handing more than a few of Andreescu’s five breaks of serve with faults.
By contrast, 15th seed Andreescu played with the assurance that has marked her out as a celebrity in a magnificent breakthrough year.

Andreescu was fearless throughout her maiden Grand Slam final and unfazed by the event of enjoying an American superstar on the biggest tennis court on the planet.

BBC Radio 5 Live tennis commentator David Law:”Andreescu was just magnificent for its first set and a halfdozen. We ran out of superlatives to describe the way she played.
“A quite stunning performance from Andreescu. She has existence and buckets and lots of talent. It is impressive to see it. She is totally unfazed by her surroundings, it would appear.
“That’s just four Grand Slam finals in a row that’s Williams hasn’t been able to win, but I really don’t understand how much she might have achieved now. Andreescu is the actual thing.”
